Reproduction is an amazing biological process, and it fascinates me that one egg and one sperm have the potential to create a complex, multicellular being like you and me. But reproduction can be fraught with challenges. One of my patients, a cancer survivor, was having trouble conceiving. Treatment helped. “After I gave birth to my daughter,” she said, “I touched her nose, I counted her toes and feet three times over, and then I pinched myself to make sure that I was not dreaming.” That patient inspired me to be a voice and an advocate for those affected by infertility.
