I was a client at Harborview, with a couple of hospitalizations behind me. I received very good treatment, and I felt that I was part of a community. And I realized that I wanted to help other people who struggle like me. I wanted a job that was in service of my values. As a peer support specialist, it is exciting to see my field expanding — and it helps debunk the myth that, if you are mentally ill, you cannot be successful.
